This is part of our Smart Practice Series on funding and care minute management, focused on improving control, compliance and financial performance.
Why dynamic and not static?
Because static rosters don’t respond well to changes in occupancy and occupancy directly determines a home’s care minute requirement. In reality, occupancy is rarely stable; it fluctuates throughout the quarter, and your roster needs to flex with it.
A dynamic and smart roster, one that adjusts in line with occupancy, your care minute requirements and resident care needs, helps minimise periods of significant under-delivery or over-delivery. This protects both compliance and financial performance.
So how do you make your roster dynamic and “smart”?
You need two things:
1. Capacity to flex up and down Your roster should have enough structural agility, supported by clear management processes, to scale resources when needed and contract when not required.
2. Data visibility that guides the right level of flex Teams need timely and accurate data to know exactly how much to flex, not just whether to flex.
Smart rostering isn’t about being reactive. It’s about being adaptive, informed and in control.
